Thanksgiving

Image
Since thanksgiving is something that is quickly approaching, I wanted to take time to share some of the things that I have been grateful for this year. The first thing that comes to mind is life. It may sound kind of typical, but this year has been very hard especially when it come to this whole covid situation. Even though it is typically compared to the common cold I have come to real size that it is more than that. Covid is something that can be caught so easily and has made most life hard having to being put on hold. When it comes family gatherings or certain holidays it is not the same when everyone is over the phone. Although I am thankful for life and having the ability to still see my family. I am hopeful that things can get back to the way they were one day.

Memory Lane

Image
Since Halloween is approaching, even though I don’t usually celebrate hollowing, my favorite movie The Nightmare before Christmas centers around this particular holiday. Every time it came on television, I have always watched this movie dating back since I was a little kid and every year, it still takes me down memory lane. Something about watching the movies I used to watch when I was younger makes me feel like a child again. I wanted to share my experience of feeling young again, being able to escape the feeling of not having to deal with the day-to-day stress that come with being an adult. When I go back in time with this movie, I no longer have worries nor am I carrying stress, but I have found that it brings a sense of peace. That peace of not having to deal with responsibility or daily activities but becomes your get away. Hopefully you can think of a favorite movie that brings you back down memory lane and gives you comfort the way this movie does me, and when you watch it, see ...

Learning Project:

Learning Project:   This week’s blog is based upon a project that we are doing in school. I wanted to share about this project because it was something that I found joy in working on. The project that we are working on is based around bringing attention to non-profit organizations in my community. When working on this project I was in a group and collectively as we searched, we found this organization that housed men. We were instantly intrigued because this was a men's shelter which in the city of Hammond is the only one. For me what piqued my interest the most was that you always see women’s shelters instead of men's and personally I have never seen one, so this was a first for me. I enjoyed working on this project of the Hammond City Rescue Mission because this particular place was not only a men’s shelter, but it was had many other programs attached. In addition, they provided a school for children that did not have the funds to do so as well as worked for thrift stores fo...

Introducing Myself

Image
Introducing myself-      For this week’s blog I have decided to talk a little about myself. As you can see from the name of the blog my name is Jordyn and I am a freshman here at Purdue University. Once I graduated from high school, I attended Ivy Tech University for two years and obtained my Associate’s in Business then I transferred here to Purdue as a sophomore to obtain the rest of my degree. So far, I have been enjoying it here as my “first year” although it has been different from Ivy Tech with only having one building and Purdue having multiple. Another difference that I’ve noticed is that at Purdue the classes are 12 weeks, whereas here at Purdue it’s only 6 weeks which is kind a game changer but definitely a challenge worth having. I have had to learn the importance of management with my time especially being that I am not only a full-time student, and I am working a full-time overnight job which has caused a bit of tension for the mornings. Even though it's gett...

After Innocence - Reflection

Image
After Innocence is a documentary centered around bringing awareness to the many people that were wrongfully convicted due to the mistakes of our justice system. Many of these people in the documentary were fathers, husbands, as well as sons, whose lives were forced to be put on hold because of the lack of evidence given to provide these men their freedom.   Guided Reflection: There were many scenes in this documentary that got to me but one that particularly stood out to me was a scene about an inmate who even though there was evidence that proved this man's innocence the justice attorneys that put this man in jail were committed to keep this man in jail because they didn't want to apologize. This scene not only reached for my heart but it kept me interested all the way to the end because I wanted to see justice for this man who was locked up for the 20+ years of his life.        ...

Learning To Let It Be

"Over thinking: The art of creating new problems out of ones that never existed in the first place."~ Anonymous The original definition of an over thinker is to think about (something) too much for too long. The older I get the more I realize what loving yourself really means. Being an overthinker can make most simple life task harder to deal with than necessary. It is a consistent everyday battle of what-ifs . Personally for me, with being an over thinker I find myself fighting internally with negative thoughts daily, and what I wanted to change most was how I thought about the outcome of these everyday situations.  So I decided to set a goal for myself and that is to remain posi...
